Autosport International Show, Birmingham, UK. 15th January 2010

Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholarship winners Michael Meadows and Euan Hankey had their first races of 2010 when they were part of the Race-Boots Boys squad in the David Brabham Celebrity Karting Challenge at Autosport International on Friday (15 January 2010).

Meadows and Hankey were part of a six-man team under the adidas brand and joined GP2 racer Sam Bird and British Formula Ford racer Josh Benson for the 90-minute race. Completing the driver squad were Tio Ellinas and Andrew Fearly.

The race was organised by Racing4Charity, and was designed to raise money for ‘Malaria No More UK’. The race attracted 28 teams, including many famous racers like Le Mans winners David Brabham, Allan McNish and Guy Smith as well as F1 aces like Alex Wurz, Anthony Davidson and Emanuele Pirro. The Celebrity Race Director was Derek Bell, five times winner of the Le Mans 24-Hour race.

The adidas squad had a very strong run and led the race for many laps before a late pit-stop dropped them down to sixth place. “It was great fun,” said Meadows. “It was good to lead for a long time and it was really enjoyable to be battling with some very big names from racing.”

The Karting Challenge will be televised in the UK on Sky Sports around 27/28 January, while Motors TV will show the programme on 13 February. It will then be broadcast worldwide, including on the Speed TV channel in the US.

Richard Westbrook wins Tourist Trophy race at Silverstone

Westbrook gets FIA GT campaign of to a platinum start

Silverstone, United Kingdom. 3rd May, 2009

adidas and Race-Boots.com supported Richard Westbrook got his 2009 FIA GT Championship campaign off to the best possible start with a win in the famous Tourist Trophy race at Silverstone. The Londoner, sharing with Emmanuel Collard, rocketed the Prospeed Competition Porsche 997 GT3 RSR through the field from a qualifying position of seventh to secure a victory the team never dreamt was possible. “ Our expectations were really low after qualifying,” said two-times Porsche Supercup champion. We were hoping we might sneak a podium, but it was a really fantastic race and the team did a great job.”

Westbrook and Collard emerged on top after a battle with the Ferrari of rivals Gianmaria Bruni and Toni Vilander. Both cars were carrying a 50kg penalty before the race weekend due to the FIA decreeing both teams drivers were all of ‘platinum’ standard. “Its designed to make racing closer and give more cars a chance, “said Westbrook. “but 50kg is a lot of weight to carry, especially at Silverstone where there are so many long fast corners.”

Now Westbrook and Collard defend their championship lead into the second round, at the twisty Adria circuit in Italy on May 16th.
